AMERICAN THEATRE | Offscript: David Adjmi in Stereo and 3 Dimensions

David Adjmi.

Offscript, American Theatre’s flagship podcast for a number of years, is back as a Facebook Live chat with the magazine’s editors and special guests as well as an audio podcast.

This month we talk to playwright David Adjmi, whose new play, Stereophonic, about a 1970s rock band struggling to complete an album, is having an acclaimed run at Playwrights Horizons through Dec. 17. We talk about his inspiration for the play, why it’s his first with fully formed characters he knows as people, and what the next steps for the show might be (yes, he confirms, there will be a cast album of Will Butler’s convincingly in-period songs). It’s our first check-in with Adjmi since we published an excerpt and a review of his stunning memoir Lot Six (he also appeared on The Subtext around the time we published the excerpt).

We also chat with Lauren Van Hemert, arts journalist and founder of the nonprofit online theatre magazine, Beltline to Broadway, which covers the vibrant Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill theatre scene and its many connections to New York’s commercial theatre.
