Artist Biography

Alex G, aka Alex Giannascoli, is a lo-fi pop singer/songwriter who dabbles in sound experimentation and relies heavily on DIY production and recording. He grew up in Pennsylvania and started writing and recording music in his bedroom. His first album Race came in 2010 appearing on the indie label Gold Soundz. A year later he released Winner as a self-issue before enrolling in Temple University in 2012. While at Temple, Alex got the attention of Mat Cothran of Elvis Depressedly who got Alex to play his first live show. After some more successful releases, he signed with the indie label Orchid Tapes in 2013 under the moniker Alex G. Then in 2015 he signed with Domino Records who released his critical hit Beach Music. This album peaked at number nine on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums Chart. This success got Alex working with Frank Ocean in 2016 on the albums Endless and Blond. The next year he changed his name to (Sandy) Alex G for his second release under Domino in 2017, Rocket. This album reached number 23 on Billboard’s Independent Albums Chart. Later that year Alex appeared on stage with Ocean and opened shows for Fleet Foxes. In the following years, Alex dropped the (Sandy) portion of his name and continued to shine, with House of Sugar which hit the Top 30 of the Billboard Alternative and Independent Albums Charts as well as the Top Five of the Heatseekers Chart. In 2021, he scored a horror file titled We’re All Going to the World’s Fair which made a Sundance Film Festival appearance. His latest release in 2022, God Save the Animals, found him sending demos to multiple studios to get the highest-quality recorded material for the release.
