Kate Douglas’ The Apiary Extends Off-Broadway
Directed by Kate Whoriskey, the play is the centerpiece of the Second Stage's inaugural Next Stage Festival.
Kate Douglas’ play The Apiary, which began performances Off-Broadway at Second Stage Theatre January 31, has extended through March 3. Directed by Kate Whoriskey, the piece plays Second Stage's Tony Kiser Theater thanks to the New American Voices Fund.
The play will still open February 13, where it is the centerpiece of Second Stage's inaugural Next Stage Festival.
The Apiary stars Obie winner April Matthis (The Piano Lesson, Toni Stone), Lucille Lortel nominee Carmen M. Herlihy (Bachelorette), Nimene Wureh (That Damn Michael Che, Inside Amy Schumer), and Emmy, SAG, and Golden Globe nominee Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black, A Month in the Country).
Set 22 years in the future, two lab assistants put a plan in motion to change the world, with the help of a few unusual volunteers.
The Apiary was previously a part of the 2022 Judith Champion Reading Series. The New Play Development at Second Stage is supported by a grant from the Harold and Mimi Steinberg Charitable Trust. This season is supported by a grant from the Howard Gilman Foundation.
