Nicholas Lloyd Webber Passes Away at 43

He was the first-born son of Andrew Lloyd Webber, and a composer in his own right.

Nicholas Lloyd Webber, a composer and record producer, has passed away from gastric cancer. He was 43.

On March 25, Lloyd Webber's father, Andrew Lloyd Webber, who had been sharing updates on his son’s health, released the following statement:

“I am shattered to have to announce that my beloved elder son Nick died a few hours ago in Basingstoke Hospital. His whole family is gathered together and we are all totally bereft.”

The eldest son of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, Nick Lloyd Webber was a musician in his own right, writing for several television advertisements and dramas, including BBC 1's Love, Lies and Records. He provided music for 56 Up, the eighth installment of Michael Apted's legendary documentary series, and licensed his work to Control Z, Monarca, and Grey’s Anatomy.

In 2016, Mr. Lloyd Webber scored both a theatrical and a symphonic version of The Little Prince, which has enjoyed successful runs in Belfast, Calgary, and Abu Dhabi. His musical Fat Friends, written with Kay Mellor and based on the ITV series of the same name, has had multiple successful UK tours, with the most recent engagement cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. Ms. Mellor passed away in 2022.

As a music producer, Mr. Lloyd Webber mixed the Andrew Lloyd Webber Symphonic Suites for the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, and both co-produced and mixed the initial concept album for Cinderella, which was retitled Bad Cinderella in the United States.

Mr. Lloyd Webber's final public project was The Last Bus, a feature film directed by Gillies MacKinnon and starring Timothy Spall and Phyllis Logan.

Mr. Lloyd Webber is survived by his wife, Polly Wiltshire, his parents Andrew Lloyd Webber and Sarah Hugill, his sister Imogen, his uncle Julian Lloyd Webber, and his half siblings Alastair, William, and Isabella.
