Six Star Andrea Macasaet Is Mimi in Stratford Festival Rent Beginning April 8

Thom Allison directs Jonathan Larson's Pulitzer Prize-winning musical at the Canadian venue.

Andrea Macasaet, who created the role of Anne Boleyn in the Broadway production of the international hit musical SIX, plays Mimi Marquez in the Stratford Festival's production of Jonathan Larson’s Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Rent beginning April 8.

Directed by Thom Allison with choreography by Marc Kimelman and musical direction by Franklin Brasz, the East Village-set musical plays the Canadian venue through October 28. Opening night is June 2.

The cast also features Robert Markus as Mark Cohen, Kolton Stewart as Roger Davis, Jahlen Barnes as Benjamin Coffin III, Nestor Lozano Jr. as Angel Dumott Schunard, Erica Peck as Maureen Johnson, Lee Siegel as Tom Collins, and Olivia Sinclair-Brisbane as Joanne Jefferson.

The ensemble includes Gabriel Antonacci, Noah Beemer, Malinda Carroll, Celeste Catena, Christine Desjardins, Nick Dolan, Kelly Holiff, Matthew Joseph, Masini McDermott, Danielle Verayo, Alex Wierzbicki, and Travae Williams.

The production has set design by Brandon Kleiman, costume design by Ming Wong, lighting design by Michael Walton, projection design by Corwin Ferguson, and sound design by Joshua D. Reid.

Directed by Michael Greif, Rent opened at the Nederlander Theatre April 29, 1996, following previews that began April 16. The musical received 10 1996 Tony nominations, subsequently winning four, including Best Musical. Larson's work also won the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. After 16 previews and 5,123 regular performances, the production played its final show September 7, 2008.

Set in Manhattan in the 1990s and inspired by Puccini’s opera La Bohème, the hit musical follows a group of young East Village artists, performers, and philosophers as they struggle through the hardships of poverty, societal discord, and the AIDS epidemic in the search for life, love and art.
