Summer Camp Announces Solshine: Music And Arts Reverie

Last year was the last year for Summer Camp and their original concept. I, personally, was very sad about this because I have been to Summer Camp for many years. I am interested to see where this new concept takes us! The festival itself has been around for 22 years. But this year: the creators of Summer Camp Music Festival will enter an exciting new era in 2024 with their new festival concept: Solshine: A Music and Arts Reverie

“The spirit and community of Summer Camp will remain, but we are excited to again push boundaries, as we did when we started Summer Camp, and expand the festival’s mission by bringing the Solshine to the forefront. Soulshine had been the house of our Make a Difference program and sustainability efforts, so elevating that intentionality to the overall festival was a big part of the plan. Summer Camp had evolved into much more than a music festival, it was a community centered around music and art. I wanted to recognize that in the name by not calling it a festival but a Reverie full of music and arts, such that we all can create our experience together – and have that build intentionality in our actions once we leave.”  – Ian Goldberg, founder of Summer Camp and Solshine: A Music & Arts Reverie

If you’ve never been to Summer Camp, you know that the venue Three Sisters Park is beloved by all. There are fields, a valley, and a beautiful forest (prime camping spots, let me tell you! This year’s Solshine will take place Friday, May 24 – Sunday, May 26, 2024 with a pre-party on Thursday, May 23. I’m curious to see what they accomplish this year!

Summer Camp has grown over the last 2 years to become the Midwest’s Premier Camping festival. In 2001, 2,000 attendees went to the inaugural year. Last year, there were over 25,000 people jammed with some of their favorite groups. Summer Camp boasts a cross-genre lineup and different experimental programming. It has a dedicated fanbase and an inclusive community. And if you’ve been, you know that legendary jam rock band moe. and genre-melding progressive rock band Umphrey’s McGee are staples of the festival.

Over the years the festival also hosted a wide variety of music acts including Tom PettyZac Brown BandSkrillexDiploRun The JewelsThe Smashing PumpkinsJane’s AddictionBilly StringsGrizGoosePretty LightsJoe Russo’s Almost DeadSubtronicsPrimusWillie Nelson & FamilyLiquid StrangerCommonDe La SoulThe Flaming LipsPapadosioPhil Lesh And The Terrapin Family BandRebelutionREZZSlightly StoopidSTS9The Disco BiscuitsExcisionThe RootsThree 6 MafiaTipperTrey Anastasio BandTychoZeds Dead and many more.

We’re looking forward to everything Solshine has to offer. It will still keep to its traditional roots but will look forward to the changes. The festival will host a diverse, cross-genre lineup of musical acts spanning jam bands, electronic, bluegrass, funk, rock, and everything in between. In addition to its music programming, the Solshine will offer a variety of workshops, food & craft vendors, and activities – the heart and soul of what made Summer Camp a ‘home away from home’ for attendees who returned year after year. There is so much more to do at Summer Camp than music!

Solshine: A Music & Arts Reverie will also retain Summer Camp’s core ethos of building an inclusive community around music. Summer Camp is committed to sustainability and making a positive impact on the world. And the fan favorite, The Illumination Woods will be back this year as well as the SOULPATCH: a dedicated area to increase knowledge of permaculture and sustainability.

Since its first edition, Summer Camp has been hosted at the idyllic Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, Illinois. A few years back, there were rumors of change and I’m sure glad we were able to keep SCamp at its home. The inaugural Solshine: A Music & Arts Reverie will continue the brand’s longstanding Memorial Day Weekend affair at the breathtaking Illinois venue. The private park provides a natural amphitheater and a stunning landscape that create the perfect scenic playground for festival goers to explore. Attendees can also camp within the festival grounds, further elevating the festival’s community-oriented make-up. (And if I attend this year, I will be car camping! I’ll never go back- let me tell you, that was a dream! See my review HERE!)

All Solshine Reverie tickets will have camping included. There are a variety of additional add-ons available including VIP upgrades as well as RV and car camping spots. The VIP upgrade includes exclusive amenities, access to the Thursday pre-party, VIP camping and viewing areas, VIP lounge, air-conditioned bathrooms, and more.

Stay tuned for the initial lineup announcement coming soon.
