Artist Biography

Christone “Kingfish” Ingram is a blues guitarist making waves out of Mississippi. Born in Clarksdale in 1999, and a cousin of Charley Pride, he started playing drums at age six and bass at age nine. At age 11 he saw a documentary on Muddy Waters that got him into the blues. His parents then bought him a guitar and enrolled him into music classes at Clarksdale’s Delta Blues Museum. Two musicians at the museum, Bill “Howl-N-Madd” Perry and Daddy Rich, saw potential in the young blues artist and gave him the name “Kingfish” when they played together at a local venue called the Ground Zero Blues Club. It wasn’t long before Kingfish started making serious waves. In 2014, he played for Michelle Obama at the White House with a group of students from the Delta Blues Museum. The next year he won the Rising Star Award from the Rhythm & Blues Foundation. Kingfish even made a big enough impression that he got an audience with B.B. King at a festival in Mississippi. In 2017, blues artist Eric Gales featured Kingfish on his album Middle of the Road which got Kingfish praises from Buddy Guy, Bootsy Collins, Dave Grohl, and Rakim. The producers of Luke Cage saw clips of Kingfish playing online and both had him on the show as well as used his music for the soundtrack. This was all before Kingfish completed high school mind you. Upon graduating, he started touring around the world, playing festivals in the United States, Europe, and the Netherlands. He released his debut self-titled album in 2019 via Alligator Records. It was nominated for Best Traditionalist Blues Album at the 62nd Grammy Awards and won Album of the Year at the Blues Music Awards, one of five trophies Ingram won at said awards. His next album in 2021 titled 662 also got a Grammy nomination. Next up for this blues legend in the making is Bonnaroo!
